This Women’s Day, CARS24 Asks: Why Don’t We Trust Women with Our Cars?

Ahead of International Women’s Day, CARS24 has launched ‘Park Your Bias’—a campaign that turns the spotlight on an unconscious bias that persists in our society. Through a powerful social experiment, the campaign exposes a simple yet shocking truth: trust isn’t always based on skill, but rather on perception.

CARS24: The Social Experiment That Revealed a Hidden Truth

To highlight this bias, CARS24 conducted an experiment at a busy parking area. Two valet attendants—a man and a woman—stood ready to park cars. They wore the same uniform, held the same experience, and performed the same job.

The only difference? Who people trusted with their car keys.

An overwhelming 97% of car owners instinctively chose the male valet. Even when he appeared inattentive, distracted by his phone, eating mid-shift, or struggling with mobility, people still picked him over the female valet. Out of 80 participants, only three trusted the female valet.

What Does This Say About Society’s Perception?

This isn’t about whether women can drive—they can and do. Women hold 35% of India’s driving licenses, race professionally, drive ambulances, and navigate the same unpredictable roads as men.

Yet, when we see a reckless driver, we often assume it’s a man taking risks. But when we see a struggling driver, our bias tells us it’s a woman. Why? Because perception often overrides reality.

However, data proves otherwise:

  • Women are involved in fewer road accidents than men.
  • Men are more likely to overspeed, drive under the influence, and violate traffic laws.

Despite these statistics, women continue to be seen as ‘less capable’ drivers, reinforcing stereotypes that limit their opportunities.

A Call to Park the Bias

“This isn’t about proving that women can drive—we already know they can,” said Gajendra Jangid, Co-Founder of CARS24. “This is about exposing a bias so deeply ingrained that we don’t even notice it. If we hesitate to trust a woman with our car, what else are we unconsciously holding them back from? It’s time to park this mindset for good.”

Beyond the Road: Bias in Every Industry

The bias against women isn’t limited to driving. It exists in hiring, leadership opportunities, and various industries. The automotive sector, from dealerships to service centers, remains male-dominated—not due to a lack of female skill but because women are often overlooked.

This Women’s Day, CARS24 urges people to do more than just celebrate women—it’s time to change the way society perceives them. Because skill has no gender. Bias does.

Conclusion

CARS24’s ‘Park Your Bias’ campaign is more than just an eye-opening experiment—it’s a wake-up call to challenge unconscious prejudices that limit women in everyday life. By recognizing and addressing these biases, we can create a more equal and inclusive society where trust is built on skill, not stereotypes. This Women’s Day, let’s take a step forward in changing mindsets and ensuring that opportunities are based on merit, not misconceptions.
