Every Women’s Day, we celebrate progress, but do we truly question the biases that persist? Shemaroo Entertainment’s #HarRoleIsHerRole campaign goes beyond conversation to challenge deeply ingrained gender stereotypes, urging society to rethink how ambition, opportunity, and success are perceived.
Shemaroo: Women’s Day Campaign
The Social Experiment: When Artists Revealed Their Own Biases
As part of the campaign, Shemaroo conducted a social experiment with 10 artists, asking them to paint portraits of professionals—a chef, cricketer, scientist, army officer, wrestler, tailor, doctor, pilot, and firefighter. The result? Each artist unconsciously painted men, proving that gender biases remain deeply rooted in our subconscious.
Media’s Role in Redefining Equality
Arghya Chakravarty, COO of Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd, emphasized that media must do more than just talk about equality—it must drive action. “With #HarRoleIsHerRole, we are taking responsibility. Equality isn’t just about opportunities; it’s about visibility. We must challenge outdated norms and promote fair representation so that talent and ambition—not gender—define success.”
Changing the Narrative in Schools
Even school occupation charts, meant to guide young minds, often depict men in leadership roles while restricting women to careers like teaching or nursing. To combat this, Shemaroo has redesigned these charts to show equal representation across professions. These will be distributed to schools and NGOs, ensuring children grow up seeing equality as the norm, not the exception.

Anuja Trivedi, CMO of Shemaroo Entertainment, highlighted the initiative’s larger goal: “#HarRoleIsHerRole isn’t just a movement—it’s a mindset shift. By reshaping how we perceive professions, we inspire a future where gender no longer defines capability. True change starts with how we see the world.”
