Manu Kumar Jain, the former face of Xiaomi in India, announces his exit from the tech giant after 9 years.
Manu Kumar Jain joined Xiaomi in 2014 during its establishment in India. Under his leadership, Xiaomi became a top mobile brand, known for offering popular, affordable smartphones with top hardware. The brand, including Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco, consistently ranked among the top three smartphone vendors in India. Jain announces his exit via social media post where he also drops a hint that his further plan includes joining some new venture startup as he mentioned that “I will be taking some time off before rejoining the Indian startup ecosystem with another fulfilling challenge.”
Manu Jain said in a statement, “After nine years, I am moving on from the Xiaomi Group. I feel confident that now is the right time, as we have strong leadership teams across the world,” Jain wrote announcing his exit. Over the next few months, I will take some time off, before taking up my next professional challenge. I am a builder at heart and would love to build something new, ideally in a new industry,”.
Jain added further, “I joined Xiaomi Group in 2014 to start its India journey. The first few years were full of ups & downs… We were the smallest among the hundreds of smartphone brands, that too with limited resources and no prior relevant industry experience. But due to the efforts of a fantastic team. we were able to build it into one of the most loved brands in India,”

Jain wrote in his farewell post, “We started as a one-person startup, working from a small little office. We were the smallest amongst the hundreds of smartphone brands, that too with limited resources and no prior relevant industry experience. But due to the efforts of a fantastic team, we were able to build one of the most loved brands in the country,”
Xiaomi, under Jain’s leadership, has maintained its position as the top smartphone brand in India since 2017, with investment from Tata Group. The company has also boosted the “Make in India” initiative by manufacturing all of its smartphones and TVs locally.
In his farewell post, Jain announced a break before pursuing his next professional opportunity, “I am a builder at heart and would love to build something new, ideally in a new industry. I am proud of having been a small part of the ever-growing startup community, twice. I hope to return to it with another fulfilling challenge,” he wrote.
