Ravish Kumar resigns from NDTV India

Senior Journalist and Ramon Magsaysay awardee Ravish Kumar resigns from NDTV, on Wednesday, 1 December 2022. This resignation was given a day after the channel’s founder promoters- Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy- resigned when they held 29.18% NDTV shares. Ravish Kumar submitted his resignation during the time he was working as the Senior Executive Editor of NDTV India.

This news was revealed when a regulatory filing made with the Bombay Stock Exchange got public. The resignation was submitted a day after the Adani group acquired 26% of the stake NDTV. Three new directors have been appointed to the board of the company, they are Adani Group CEP Sudipta Bhattacharya, AMG Media Network CEO and Editor in chief AMG Media Network and Senthil Sinniah Chengalvarayan, director at Adani group.

In August, Adani Group planned to buy a major stake in NDTV, knowing the fact that this investment would be one of the game changers. Adani group proposed an open offer that got approved by BSE (India’s capital market regulator) beginning of this month.

The Adani group had acquired a 99.5% holding in RRPR Holding Private Ltd, the promoter group vehicle of news media company NDTV.

Journey Of Ravish Kumar in NDTV

Ravish Kumar was born on 5 December 1974 in Jitwarpur village near Areraj in East Champaran district of Bihar in a Brahmin family. He did his high school from Loyola High School, Patna. He moved to Delhi for higher studies where he did his graduation from Deshbandhu College, DU. He did his Post Graduation from Indian Institute of Mass Communication in Hindi journalism.

Kumar is one of the prominent leaders who has served the Indian media for almost 26 years as a journalist. He joined NDTV in the year 1996 and since then he has been part of plenty of news-based shows. He has hosted renowned shows such as HUM Log, Ravish Ki Report, Des Ki Baat, and Prime Time. Ravish Kumar has bagged Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award for the Best Journalist of the Year and in 2019, he become the fifth Indian Journalist to be honored with Ramon Magsaysay Award.

Reaction of Channel on Kumar’s’ resignation.

NDTV journalists and others have stated that “Few journalists have impacted people as much as Ravish did. This reflects in the immense feedback about him — in the ‘crowds he draws everywhere; in the prestigious awards and recognition, he has received, within India and internationally,” read the mail via the channel. “Ravish has been an integral part of NDTV for decades, his contribution has been immense, and we know he will be successful as he embarks on a new beginning,” the mail said.
