In a significant move to enhance the awareness of digital payment safety in India, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has appointed renowned Bollywood actor Pankaj Tripathi as its ‘UPI Safety Ambassador.’ This announcement comes in the wake of ongoing discussions surrounding the safety and security of digital payment platforms, with a particular focus on the United Payments Interface (UPI).

The NPCI, in its commitment to fostering a secure digital payments environment, has teamed up with acclaimed actor Pankaj Tripathi to promote safety awareness.   3. Entering UPI PIN means money getting deducted from your account.
  4. Scanning QR is for making a payment, not for receiving money

  6. Check SMS when money is deducted

The Booming Digital Payment Ecosystem In India

India’s digital payment ecosystem has experienced substantial growth in recent years, driven by government initiatives, increased internet and smartphone usage, and the flourishing e-commerce industry. According to NPCI, at the end of the calendar year 2022, the total transaction value of UPI reached ₹125.95 trillion, marking a remarkable 1.75-fold year-on-year increase. In FY 2021-22, the nation witnessed a staggering 8,840 crores of digital payment transactions, with 87.20% of current and savings accounts seeded with Aadhaar numbers and 81.05% with mobile numbers. By the close of the calendar year 2023, UPI’s total transaction volume stands at an impressive 83.75 billion.
