The Indian smartphone market is abuzz with anticipation as news of Honor’s comeback spreads like wildfire. Honor, a renowned Chinese brand that once enjoyed significant popularity, is gearing up to make a remarkable resurgence in India. Adding to the excitement is the potential involvement of Madhav Sheth, the former head of Realme India, who is rumored to be leading the Honor smartphones relaunch. With Honor’s return and Sheth’s reputed expertise, the Indian smartphone landscape is set to witness a promising transformation.

Honor Smartphones Comeback Time

Reliable tipster Mukul Sharma has shared information that suggests Honor, the once-popular Chinese smartphone brand, is preparing to reenter the Indian market. Sharma revealed that Madhav Sheth, the former head of Realme India, has filed a new trademark for “Honor for Knights,” explicitly indicating mobile phones and accessories.

This trademark filing strongly suggests that Honor is indeed planning to make a comeback. Adding more weight to the speculations, Sharma’s tweet hinted that the anticipated relaunch could happen as early as August.

Furthermore, Sheth’s Twitter bio, which cryptically asks, “When is the KNIGHT coming?” adds to the growing evidence pointing to Honor’s imminent return to India, with Sheth at the helm.

There were earlier rumors surrounding Sheth’s potential move to Honor following his departure from Realme in June. Although no official statements were made by either party, this recent trademark filing significantly strengthens the credibility of those rumors.

Honor’s Journey

Honor, initially recognized as a popular Chinese smartphone brand catering to the budget and mid-range segments, offered a diverse range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and fitness bands. However, the company faced a setback when its parent company, Huawei, was restricted from accessing Google services by the US government. Initially, reports suggested that Honor would exit the Indian smartphone market, but the company later denied those claims. Now, with the forthcoming relaunch, Honor is determined to regain its position and recapture the attention of Indian consumers.

Honor debuted as a sub-brand of Huawei in 2013. It entered the Indian market in 2014 and quickly gained popularity due to its affordable pricing and value-for-money devices. In 2020, while winding down its smartphone business in India, Honor launched a few phones, such as the Honor 9X Pro, Honor 9A, and Honor 9S. Following the restrictions placed on Huawei by the United States government, Honor was later sold to a consortium of Chinese companies. The brand remained active in China and some global markets, continuing to launch fitness trackers and tablets. Recent reports indicate that the brand is now planning to relaunch itself in the Indian market, with the announcement of a new phone expected in August.

Madhav Sheth’s Role

According to a report that surfaced last month, Madhav Sheth, the former CEO of Realme, will be leading the Honor brand in India. Reliable tipster Mukul Sharma recently shared an image of a trademark application filed by Honor, revealing the details. The trademark “Honor for Knights” has been registered in India, with Madhav Sheth listed as the proprietor. This provides clear evidence of Honor’s comeback in India’s smartphone space, with Sheth playing a pivotal role.

Madhav Sheth formally resigned from his position as the CEO of Realme India last month. In a heartfelt note shared on Twitter, Sheth expressed gratitude for his five-year-long journey at Realme and announced his decision to embark on a new chapter. While bidding farewell, he stated that he would continue to support Realme as a strategic advisor, providing valuable insights on development strategy, global product observations, market insights, and operating suggestions. Sheth’s leadership and experience make him a natural fit to spearhead Honor’s relaunch in India.
